SHARPS DISPOSAL

Used sharp items can include scalpel blades, needles, broken glassware (non pharmaceutical/medical). All such items are to be placed into a sharps approved container. These containers can be identified by their "UN 3291" approval. This shows that the container has been tested and approved to the United Nations international standard. The international ADR transport regulations only permit sharps to be transported in "UN 3291" approved containers.

Inappropriate storage or handling of sharps can result in needle stick injuries. This danger is not limited to healthcare workers but also waste management workers, law enforcement workers, custodial workers, cleaning & housekeeping staff in hospitals, veterinary practices, doctor's surgeries, dentists etc.
